Hi there!

My name is Rachel and I started Hummingbird & Petal to live out my dream of being a floral designer, all while using the unique elegance of flowers to make a meaningful impact on people’s lives. Flowers bring me so much joy and I’m dedicated to igniting that joy in others, as well as bringing the healing, peacefulness of nature for someone to closely enjoy.

As I design, I mindfully consider key elements such as form, space, color, and texture, while also letting the natural state of each individual flower inspire me. My main focus is to provide fresh blooms that have been thoughtfully chosen and intricately crafted to mirror all that you were hoping for in a floral creation.

A bit about how I got here…

Along with nature, flowers have been a part of who I am for as long as I can remember. Growing up, I had them all around my room (and still do!). Flowers have always been very comforting and therapeutic for me. I spent so many summer days as a teenager at a nearby park that had a huge field of wildflowers I would just marvel at.

Fast-forwarding to my second year of college, plans for my degree had fallen through and I felt very discouraged about the direction of my life. But little did I know, stepping away from college was unveiling what the future for my life was supposed to be. This time of sorting my life out gave me an opportunity to turn my passion for flowers into an active pursuit to get a formal education in floral design.

It was the spring of 2019 and I had decided to live in the gorgeous Portland, Oregon while I took classes at the Floral Design Institute there. The whole experience was unlike anything I tried to prepare for. I was living and breathing floral design and loving every minute of it. For the first time in my life, I felt like I was exactly where I was supposed to be. I acquired so much vital knowledge and experience while studying there and my love for flowers only grew. After I received certifications in both the basic and advanced courses, I left with a fire inside me and knowing without a doubt, my future is flowers.

When I’m not designing, I’m most likely spending time with my supportive, sweet husband and our precious baby girl, getting renewed exploring nature, or watching The Office.
